KINDERGARTEN  READINESS

our vision

A community where every child enters kindergarten developmentally on track—supported by strong families, accessible resources, and early learning opportunities across Florence County.

    • Children entering kindergarten developmentally on track

    • Parents and guardians are able to access the services and support they need to nurture their children’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development.

    • Affordable, reliable childcare available for working families

Kindergarten Readiness

Youth Opportunity

why it matters

The earliest years of a child’s life set the foundation for everything that follows. But in Florence County, the challenges are clear: 72% of children in Districts 2, 3, and 5 did not demonstrate kindergarten readiness in 2023 .

Parents and caregivers echoed the same concerns during our community conversations: families need more support, more access, and more early learning opportunities for children from birth to age four.

OUR STRATEGIES TO FACE THESE ISSUES

Fund

Fund programs that ensure children from birth through age 4 reach critical academic and developmental milestones through strong family and community engagement and equitable access to early learning and childcare.

ADVOCATE

Support local, state, and national efforts to increase availability and access to quality early childhood and pre-school programs.

COLLABORATE

Collaborate with local, and state stakeholders to promote and support resources and institutions that focus on the development of the whole child and support the family.

EDUCATE

Promote parent engagement and leadership in early education for children from birth through age 4. Share key child development concepts such as brain development, social development, and motor skills.
