A workout buddy, or even a whole workout team, can be a great way to not only keep yourself motivated, but also accountable for your healthy goals. For example, if you told your friend you would meet them at the gym after work, you are far less likely to skip that workout because you do not want to leave your friend alone. If your co-worker is your workout buddy, you two can keep each other accountable with un-healthy lunches or snacking while you are at work. Having a spouse or a family member with similar healthy goals can also be a great resource for a workout buddy because they will help keep you consistently accountable. read more

You most likely have heard by now how helpful it can be to have health-related goals for yourself as you start on a healthy journey. If you do have these goals, you should also have some method, or several methods, for tracking your progress towards your goals. For most individuals, the go-to progress tracker is a scale to measure their weight. While a scale can be a simple and easy progress tool to utilize, it should not be the only tracking method that you use. Your weight can increase, decrease and fluctuate at any time or for any number of reasons and if you are only relying on that number to gauge your progress, you may become discouraged when it is not decreasing as much as you believe it should. read more

In the quest for weight loss, many people replace sugar with artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners are synthetic sugar substitutes used to replace sugar. Some have been formulated from natural substances, such as herbs or even sugar. Artificial sweeteners are also known as intense sweeteners because they are much sweeter tasting than sugar. Found in different colored packets at restaurants, these sweeteners are an attractive option since they contain no calories. They are used widely in processed foods such as beverages, baked goods, candies, and dairy products and can also be used in sweet treats baked at home. read more

Have you ever started to head to the gym with the intent of doing a killer workout that gets your heart pumping, burns major calories, and works your muscles? Sounds like a great idea, right? The only problem is that most of us have no idea what kind of workout we are going to do to achieve those goals.  You get to the gym, warm up, and then are ready to start, but you haven’t quite decided what exercises you are going to do. You decide to do a total body workout and just pick some exercises that you like and that aren’t too difficult. After an hour of working out, you decide that you’ve done enough and are ready to go home. This sounds like a good trip to the gym except you didn’t achieve that killer workout that you really wanted to do. read more
