In an effort to help support financial stability in Florence County, the United Way of Florence County will be offering the VITA Tax Prep program for free to all Florence County residents who made $56,000 or less in 2019 and meet certain requirements. To successfully run this program, we are in need of volunteers to help individuals and families prepare their basic income tax returns.

Interested volunteers do not need to have prior tax preparation experience, but will be required to attend two four-hour training sessions provided by the IRS. The training sessions for the United Way of Florence County site will take place on Saturday, January 25th and Saturday, February 1st from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the United Way office at 1621 W. Palmetto Street. After the training is complete, our VITA site will operate from February until April.

If you would like to volunteer for our VITA site, please contact us at 843-662-2407 or email rbaggett@uwflorence.org and make plans to attend the training sessions on 1/25 and 2/1. Volunteers are not required to volunteer for a certain amount of time or days in order to participate in this program.

The dates and times for residents to have their taxes prepared at our site will be released on this website on February 3rd. We expect to be open at least two days during the week and also offer at least one Saturday session a month. The sessions will be open to walk-ins, but those with appointments will be served first. Information about the VITA program, who qualifies to apply, and what needs to be brought to the appointments can be found here
