As 2019 comes to a close, we here at the United Way of Florence County are reflecting on all the incredible work that we have accomplished in our community with your help this year. One of our most exciting and meaningful accomplishments this year was being able to increase funding to our local agencies by close to $60,000 through your donations to our 2018-2019 campaign! This means we were able to award over $882,086 to 26 programs and services at local non-profits that are providing life-changing services to those in need. Through that funding, those programs and services were able to provide:
  • 89,027 meals to senior citizens to prevent the threat of hunger
  • 8,037 victims of a disaster (such as a hurricane or a home fire) with shelter, food, financial assistance, and more
  • 7,915 individuals or families with financial assistance to prevent eviction, keep utilities connected, pay for medicine, or receive childcare for their children
  • 3,615 youths with a safe & educational program to attend after school and/or during the summer
If we want to help even more individuals in need in 2020, we need you. We strongly encourage you to make an end-of-the-year donation using the Give button above.

Along with our fundraising efforts, we also held some great events and programs during 2019.
Florence's Biggest Loser
Through our Burn & Learn Initiative and its main program, Florence's Biggest Loser, we help individuals in the Pee Dee lose weight and create healthy habits that last. During our 6th year of the Florence's Biggest Loser program in 2019, we helped over 45 contestants lose 881 pounds and 245 inches! You can read more about the 2019 Florence's Biggest Loser results by clicking on the "Our Work" tab above and be on the lookout for new health initiatives in 2020.

Annual Luncheon & Awards Celebration
We would not be able to provide for those in need without the help of the companies, organizations, & individuals that do so much for us in Florence County. During our 2019 Annual Luncheon & Awards Celebration, we took the time to spotlight those entities and individuals for doing their part to play a starring role in their community through United Way. A full list of all those honored can be found on our News page.

27th Annual Day of Caring
On our Day of Caring, we bring together as many individuals as possible to complete as many volunteers projects as possible for non-profits in Florence County. For our 27th Annual Day of Caring, we were ecstatic to have over 400 volunteers from a record-breaking 40 companies complete 79 service projects for our community! By having these projects completed, we are not only allowing the agencies to better serve those in need, but we are also helping to make this community a better place. You can check out a full list of projects completed on our Day of Caring page under the "Our Work" tab and make sure to save the date for the 2020 Day of Caring on September 18th.

United Way 211 Program
During the summer of 2019, we were thrilled to bring the United Way 211 program to Florence County. 211 is a collection of all the resources, services, and programs available in Florence County in one easy-to-reach and free location. Often times, when an individual is in need, they aren't aware of where to go to get help. The United Way 211 program solves this problem by providing a contact line that is available 24/7 to help those individuals get connected to the resources they need. Since starting the program in May, over 1,852 referrals have been made to residents of Florence County. You can learn more about the 211 program under the "Our Work" tab above.

From our family to yours, have a Happy and Safe New Year's!
