The United Way of Florence County is excited to be able to again offer the services of 211 to all of the residents in the Florence County community. By contacting 211 by phone, through the app, or by going online, individuals in need of assistance can talk to a live specialist and be connected to a wealth of services and resources in our area.

What is 211?

United Way’s 211 is a vital service operated and funded, in part, by local United Ways that is leveraged by millions of people across North America. Every day, clients contact 211 to access free and confidential counseling services and assistance programs that help with a wide-range of needs. In addition to providing support for those in need, 211 allows United Way to identify service gaps, unmet needs, underserved populations, and common determinants that often lead to crisis.

How To Contact United Way’s 211

To contact 211 and use its services, you can call by either dialing 2-1-1 or calling toll free at 866-892-9211. You can also research services and assistance programs through the website at www.SC211.org or by downloading the SC 2-1-1 app. 211 is free to contact and all inquiries are kept completely confidential. The phone lines and online access areas are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are available in over 180 different languages.

How You Can Help

If you own or manage a local business, contact us at 843-662-2407 or stop by our office at 1621 W. Palmetto Street in Florence to pick up a poster and brochures (available in both English and Spanish) about 211 for your employees. If you manage or are employed at a local non-profit, you can add your non-profit and its services to the local 211 database by going online to www.SC211.org and creating an account. We are also looking for sponsors to help keep 211 available for Florence County residents for the foreseeable future. During the month of August, the United Way 211 line for Florence County had 116 calls with 198 referrals made. Of those referrals, the Top 3 requests were for Utilities Assistance, Rental Assistance, and Community Shelters. The Top 3 providers recommended were Lighthouse Ministries, The Salvation Army, and the Pee Dee Community Action Agency. During the month of July, the United Way 211 line for Florence County had 149 calls with 317 referrals made. That is an increase of over double the amount of calls and referrals made in June. Of those referrals, the Top 3 requests were for utilities assistance, rental assistance, and food pantries and the Top 3 providers were Lighthouse Ministries, The Salvation Army, and the Pee Dee Community Action Agency.
